Beyond the Mat, Yoga as Lifestyle
The physical practice of yoga asana is what opened my eyes and heart to the infinite blessings of what this expansive discipline could bring to my mind, body, spirit and soul. Years later, after a decade as a leader in the yoga world, traveling the globe and weaving all limb’s of yoga into my lifestyle, i’ve uncovered and curated my own style, flavor and offering for those who seek. My intention to facilitate yoga as a lifestyle is to support others in navigating their own path to healing, balancing and thriving in heart, mind, body and soul. Words falls short, I could speak to yoga’s influence on healing from a chronic diagnosis of ulcerative colitis, harmonizing core traumas, building community, reattuning to the natural cycles of this planet and finding my focused purpose in the world; yet one must experience the offerings first hand and apply what they unearth to their lived experience. In a world with the collective disease of disconnection, yoga is here to support our unification with Self, Spirit and nature. Yogic philosophy, practices and tangible applications are foundational components to the offerings found throughout Light Heart Alchemy. Supporting access emotional intelligence, forge physical vitality, increase mental fortitude and create connection to Spirit.

“Yoga is the practice of
quieting the mind”
— Patanjai
17 year Journey with the Practice of Yoga
My journey with yoga began in 2008 in studio on the Northside of Chicago while at University. Introduced to yoga, in a very western approach of power vinyasa, it spoke to my physical expression of feeling good in my body, healing injuries and sweating profusely. Swiftly shifting to reveal the connection to spirit through exploration of the other seven limbs of yoga, I began accompanying intentional practices, breathwork, rituals, and community gatherings to awaken something I didn’t know I was longing for.
Having been an athlete my entire life; my connection to flow state, self and identity resided primarily in this expression of movement. Yoga was my first mindful bridge of the physical body with Spirit.
Experiencing many lineages, expressions and interpretations of yoga, I began to see yoga as a way of being, rather than only one limb of Asana. From kundalini to Hatha, yin and restorative, Nidra to Budokon, and practices which involved deep meditation and breathwork, the path of yoga expanded my concept of consciousness, interconnectedness and in simplicity: how to navigate and “be” in this human experience.
This yoga journey as a student, facilitator, teacher training lead and diverse movement specialist has provided an eclectic landscape and wheelhouse of practices, tools, philosophies, specialties, interpretations and applications. For this, my ability and adaptability as a facilitator holds breadth and depth. A spectrum capable of meeting the needs of humans from many walks of life.
In this exploration of yoga, my scope continued to widen to more specialized approaches. Such as the application of yoga as deep therapy for those affected with a traumatic brain injury (www.loveyourbrain.com), yoga as play for children, yoga for those with sensory impairment such as blindness, yoga with DJ’s and Lasers and many more renderings of possible applications. The list of interpretations of how to apply the principles of the vast landscape that is yoga continues to expand my perception and relationship with this practice to this day.
Thus, yoga was not only the gateway and portal for my journey to Self, but also provided evolving interpretations on my path as a guide, facilitator, and transformational space holder.
I give thanks and humbly show reverence to yoga’s ancient origins of India, while also believing yoga as an ever evolving essence of change and adaptation. Applicable to anyone, anywhere. That which can be combined with almost any healing modality, movement practice and spiritual exploration.
Yoga is a mystical and tangible practice, bridging the spiritual and physical world, through sutras of presence. An expansive and integrative practice to be experienced…such as life.
After spending years opening CorePower Yoga studios, leading teacher trainings and producing community yoga events in Seattle and Phoenix, I decided to take a step away from the yoga community and dive deeper into my personal and spiritual practice. Time away from the yoga studio setting provided me the space to create my own interpretations of how I relate with my mind, body and Spirit; and how I share that with others in a creative and authentic way. I now utilize all aspects of yogic philosophy to deepen my connection to Self, Spirit and the Collective.
What is currently emerging in my own practice is fun, powerful and authentic. I now facilitate from an evolving creative space and share the joy of yoga, movement arts and spiritual exploration.
